Benefits to Children

Every day in nursery is carefully planned to ensure your child receives the best learning opportunities in a safe, fun and caring environment while ensuring we meet the individual social, physical and emotional needs of each child.

Our nursery managers and their team realise the importance of building a trusting, confident relationship with parents and carers from the very first day, to ensure they meet all the individual needs of both the parent and the child.

At Mace, we realise the needs of children are very specific and important. We are a market leader in the design, construction and conversion of our buildings to ensure that they are perfect for your little ones, providing the best layout and facilities to enable children to enjoy their time in nursery.

Our nurseries are fun, bright and attractive to children with areas for active play, eating, sleeping and quiet times. All equipment, furniture and facilities from tables and chairs to toilets and wash hand basins are specially designed for children.

Benefits to Parents

At Mace, we understand that leaving your child for the first time in nursery is a big event and can be a stressful and upsetting time for you and sometimes your child, therefore we try to make this as easy as possible. Once your place is booked and before your child starts nursery, we will offer you and your child the opportunity to attend ‘settling-in sessions’. This experience is invaluable and will enable us to begin to build important relationships with you.

Settling in is a gradual process which will help you feel more comfortable and confident in leaving your child for longer periods of time on each visit, and then on their first day, you will be happy and reassured that your child is contented and settled.

We ensure that you are given every opportunity to talk to your child’s Key Worker and other nursery staff. Good communication between staff and parents is vital as it will enable us to provide full reports on the progress your child is making and answer any questions you may have.

Parents’ Evenings are held regularly, which gives you and your child’s Key Worker the opportunity to discuss their progress, needs and development.

Regular newsletters keep parents informed on nursery activities and promotions taking place, changes to policies, general information, updates on the nursery staff team and any other information which you as a parent should be aware of.

There are also notice boards around the nursery, which contain specific information for each nursery room and the activities and events taking place.

A safe, secure environment is obviously of great importance to any parent leaving their child in a nursery setting.

Our admissions policy is meticulous and at the time of booking your child’s place you will be asked to complete an ‘Authorised Persons to Collect your Child’ form and only these people will be allowed to collect your child from school. Your child will be signed in on the Base Room register each time they attend nursery and signed out when they are collected.

Any visitors or contractors must produce a form of ID before they gain access to the nursery and they are required to sign a visitors/contractors book, which is monitored regularly to ensure that relevant procedures are being followed.

Health and safety is very important to us. We ensure that our nursery provides a safe environment for all children, parents and staff. We have our own team of health and safety experts who work closely with the nurseries to ensure that all safety procedures and practices are adhered to throughout. Our nursery staff receive regular training and updates on health and safety issues and each nursery has a health and safety co-ordinator.

Play is central to a child’s learning.

“Discovery is far more than a means to livelihood, far more than a spice of life. Discovery is the ultimate of human achievement. Discovery is thrill, excitement and euphoria. Discovery is the difference between victory and defeat between satisfaction and disappointment, between success and failure. Discovery is the prime goal of every true research scientist, every explorer of the great unknown.”

– from The Art Of Discovery, by J Oliver

Play is the opportunity to discover and is consequently central to a child’s learning. It contributes to development of feelings, ideas and imagination, relationships, abstract ways of thinking including the moral and spiritual self.

As such, at Mace we recognise the importance of giving children the time to play and it is, in fact, one of the strengths of the Montessori method that children explore their environment independently and progress at their own speed. The specialised Montessori materials are designed to encourage children’s natural curiosity and to allow them steady progress. Thus, as they play in our nursery, carefully and gently guided by our staff, you will find that your children are not only having fun but learning as well.

Educationalists now recognise the prime importance of play for children’s development. Indeed, some researchers believe that play and laughter actually “fertilise” the brain. Play is also believed to be very important as an antidote to “over-occupied” childhoods, where children take on too many formal organised activities (ballet, football, rugby, learning new language, etc) to leave enough time for playing.
