Hello and a warm welcome to Mace Green Gables Montessori School. The school was opened on the 1st September 2011 and was intended to serve as the Primary school for Green Gables Montessori Nursery, which is the oldest Montessori Nursery in the Docklands area, having been established since October 1989. However, at the request of parents, we currently cater for 94 children, not only from Primary age, but from babies aged 3 months through to children aged 11 years old. This makes us unique in the London area as we now offer the Montessori philosophy and approach across the whole age range of children, all on one site. We have a brand new 650 square metre (7000sq. ft.) building, converted especially for our use. Our Baby room caters for 15 babies and the Toddler Room, 6 toddlers. Our Primary School classes will be small, catering for 18-20 children in our Pre-School, Reception, Lower and Upper Elementary classes. All this, within bright spacious classrooms located at 4. Wapping Lane. In the primary classes, for working parents we offer the same hours and weeks of opening as the Nursery Programme; 48 weeks of the year, 8am until 6pm. We hope this facility meets the needs of local parents who currently find it difficult to place their children in a good local school. It is our experience that many families move out of the City solely to provide a good education for their children. This is such a shame as many of you enjoy City living and the benefit of being close to the City and West End with the amenities it has to offer. We provide academic terms that are the same length as the local authority schools with the added advantage of extended day care for parents who need it. We hope to offer a real choice for parents who may find the extended day and holidays difficult to deal with once their children leave their daycare setting for full-time education. Children in our Nursery Programme have access to the 1000 square metre garden attached to Green Gables Nursery. The Elementary school has an indoor 60 square metre gym and other local gardens within a minute’s walk. The John Orwell Sports Centre and Shadwell Basin are only a short walk away and St George’s Swimming pool is conveniently opposite. All our Primary classes will have weekly swimming lessons throughout their time with us which contribute to a well-rounded curriculum.
